Groeten uit de Rimboe
Eind jaren ’90 bedachten vier televisiebreinen dat het opsluiten van een groep doodgewone mensen in een huis vol camera’s interessante televisie zou opleveren. De rest is bekend. Het succes van Big Brother veroorzaakte een stortvloed aan reality-series, de een nog gekker dan de ander. Mensen vinden het leuk, zo bleek (als ook eerder al was gebleken), om een kijkje in andermans levens te nemen. Vooral programma’s waarin bijzondere mensen (sterren) in hun dagelijkse leven worden gevolgd, en die waarin gewone mensen in extreme situaties worden geplaatst, werden populair. Het ‘extreme’ in dat laatste soort werd dan ook steeds extremer, waardoor deze programma’s vaak niet meer dan sensatiezoekerij leken. De SBS 6-serie Groeten uit de Rimboe is hier een goed voorbeeld van. Read more »

Sarah Bernhardt expo
I went to see some beautiful Sarah Bernhardt prints in the Joods Historisch Museum today (I wanted to take them home with me…) and then, while cycling home, I saw the queen! As she got out of her car, everyone started clapping. And oh yeah, earlier that day, we were nearly hit by the queen’s entourage (though we didn’t realize it was her in one of those cars until later)!
