The weather was less than pleasant this Saturday, but the 900 or so guests certainly weren’t going to let the rain or the immensely long queue stand in their way of getting in. Off schedule, the unofficial kick-off of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week, presented the work of seven up-and-coming designers, both from the Netherlands and from abroad. Despite the heat inside, and the wide variety of technical glitches the multidisciplinary show encountered, the young designers were able to display the fruits of their creative labour and hopefully also pave the way for great things to come. Teenpop just doesn’t get any better than this. Back in the 80’s, being a teen idol meant performing in malls and being young and wide-eyed and wholesome (I’m talking to you, Britney…).
