Lazy afternoon, lots of rain.
What a perfect day to stay in. Days like these are lovely for those who are inside. The sound of the rain and the wind, very gezellig. Not so much for those who are outside though. I turn on the heater (-Nuon will be reimbursing me with €506,- for my electric bill so fire it up!), get some work done, drink some coffee, read a bit of Carmiggelt..
But eventually I do have to go out to the Dirk to get some shopping done. So on the bike. There is usually some gipsy woman outside who always plays Careless Whisper on her accordion, but now there is some other woman playing not at all George Michael-related music which disappoints me. The deaf guy who I used to be afraid of but am now fond of doesn’t yell at me. I decide to buy two litres of milk instead of one as the weather won’t be getting any better in the next few days which guarantees desire for coffee. The woman behind me in line is beating her young grandson over the head with a huge inflatable hammer. Ironically, he has a black eye and a split lip. I pay. I’ve tried to spend more than €40 at the Dirk countless times but have never succeeded. Leaving the supermarket, the guy once again doesn’t yell at me. Maybe he’s having a bad day? Cycling home through the rain…I think 30 minutes outside will suffice for today. How about some coffee?..
