New book: Lichter leven

lichterleven

Last week, ‘Lichter leven (lightstyle inspiratieboek)’ was released. Written by my friend Kirstin Hanssen and Fidessa Docters van Leeuwen, the book talks about Kirstin and Fidessa’s ten years of experience with classes, courses and books on the topic of how to live a lighter life, and what happens once you’re so-called ‘enlightened’. What transpired from all of these experiences is a collection of stories, tips and advice ─ a kind of tasting platter of the most useful, practical and inspiring small and great lessons that yoga, meditation, healing and natural medicine and food offer us for daily modern life.

What I particularly like about ‘Lichter leven’ is that it is written from a personal perspective and all of the small ‘assignments’ are actually very doable. The book’s humour, highly recognisable anecdotes and little illustrations by Fidessa make the subject feel light (aha!) and very accessible.

The book ‘Lichter leven’ is now available (only in Dutch for now) for €14,95 in book shops (and here on bol.com).

Kirstin and Fidessa will also be doing workshops - find more information on the Lichter leven website.

Edible Selby book signing at ABC

edible-selby1
Todd Selby was already well known for his website The Selby, for which he photographs extraordinary people and the extraordinary worlds they inhabit. Then came his first book, ‘The Selby is In Your Place’ (2010), which focused specifically on the (sometimes outrageous) homes of his creative subjects.

For his second book, Todd Selby traveled around the globe again, photographing and interviewing people whose lives are centered around food in some way. Among these are a rooftop farmer in Brooklyn, a salmon smoker in Norway and a pizza maker in Tokyo. Accompanied by handwritten questionnaires and watercolor illustrations, the result is both beautiful and quirky, and will appeal to photography fans and foodies alike.edible-selby-taco
The book is available now, but for those who live in Amsterdam and want to buy a book AND get it signed by Mr. Selby himself at the same time, you’re in luck: The American Book Center is hosting a signing session on November 1st at 19:00 on Spui 12 in Amsterdam.

This 1959 book is simply diviiine, if you ask me. I bought it at Van Dijk en Ko in Amsterdam-Noord, which is now across from Neef Louis (both of which I highly recommend).

And best of all: it was only €4,-! I KNOW!…

Fashion Blogs - NOW AVAILABLE!

fashion-blogs
‘Fashion Blogs - From Musings on Personal Taste to Style Reports around the Globe‘ is the title of a new book, currently available!!

Kirstin Hanssen, Felicia Nitzsche and myself began working on this project about two years ago. We set out to interview the world’s best and most inspiring fashion bloggers, mapping a phenomenon in development. At times we didn’t think the project would ever be finished, but… Hooray! it is finally out, and made available by Dutch publisher d’jonge Hond.

Fashion Blogs features interviews with 34 of the biggest fashion bloggers, such as Susie Bubble, Garance Doré, Diane Pernet, Les Mads, the Cobra Snake, Jane Aldridge (Sea of Shoes), and many many more. The book also contains chapter introductions written by industry insiders such as Aynouk Tan and Mrs. Mo Veld, and beautiful photos by Krista van der Niet.
